SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The drawing for ballot positions for candidates running in the upcoming South Orange Village Board of Trustees election took place on Monday, March 13.

The drawing was conducted by Acting Township Clerk Shinell Smith, who was assisted by Joy White.

Nureed Saeed, running on the platform “Independent Thought. Innovation. Inclusion," will appear on Line A. The slate of Walter Clarke, Stephen Schnall, and Karen Hilton, who are running together as “South Orange 2017," will appear on Line B. Schnall and Clarke are both currently South Orange Trustees.

Present to observe the results were Saeed, Kelly Quirk, who is a friend of Saeed, Clarke, Schnall, and neutral observer Alyssa Aronson, who is a resident of South Orange. Hilton was unable to attend the drawing.

Smith folded two slips of paper – one with Saeed’s name, and the other with the Clarke, Schnall, and Hilton slate of names. After placing the folded pieces of paper in a bag, White shook the bag and Aronson, without looking, drew the names from the bag. All candidates were congratulated once the results were announced.

Three South Orange Village Trustee terms end this May, therefore creating vacancies.The election will be held on May 9.
