WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange boys soccer team took twice as many shots as Columbia and came away with a 3-0 victory on Monday.
The Mountaineers (2-0) led, 1-0, at halftime. Darren Lewis scored one goal and assisted on another. Dario Carraha and Tyrese Folkes each scored a goal. Jeremy Green and Mason Bashkoff each assisted on Mountaineer goals.
Nikolai Matthews of West Orange saved five shots on goal, as the Mountaineers outshot the Cougars, 10-5.
"The defense was excellent," West Orange head coach Doug Nevins said. "Connor Hinfey, Ari Rosu, and Bryce Hannah were great in the back. Nikolai Matthews was fantastic in goal and earned his second shutout."
"Seniors Julien Carraha, Louis Mignone and Justin Reid were very strong in the midfield. Overall, it was a wonderful team performance," Nevins said.
Gavin Kleppe had seven saves in goal for Columbia.
