MILLBURN, NJ - Congregation B’nai Jeshurun (TBJ) will honor Rabbi Matthew D. Gewirtz’s tenth year of service at a celebratory Erev Shabbat Service on Friday, June 10, beginning at 5:30 pm.
Special guests for the evening include Senator Cory Booker, Rabbi Aaron Panken (President, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion), and Matt Turk (artist and musician).
Each of the special guests has a unique connection with Rabbi Gewirtz, who lives in Maplewood.
- Senator Booker and Rabbi Gewirtz both served as members of the Newark Interfaith Coalition for Hope and Peace.
- Rabbi Panken is now the President of the seminary by which Rabbi Gewirtz was ordained.
- Artist and musician Turk has been providing Jewish music to TBJ and TBJ trips to Israel for many years.
According to organizers, the celebration on Friday evening "is the culmination of events, highlighted by the May Gala attended by 700 people, honoring Rabbi Gewirtz on his Tenth Anniversary at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun."
