MAPLEWOOD AND SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Columbia High School athletic director Larry Busichio has been suspended indefinitely along with four other staffers for as yet undisclosed reasons, according to district officials.

The suspensions were approved at the last school board meeting on Monday as part of a group of five staff suspensions, which were listed in the agenda without names attached.

But those with knowledge of the situation indicate one of those suspended was Busichio. Since he has tenure he was suspended with pay for an undetermined length of time, according to the related resolution.

Several coaches, who have begun practice for fall sports, have also informed parents this week that Busichio may not be around for the fall seasons, but without specifics.

Emails seeking comment from school district spokespeople and Board President Elizabeth Baker received no response Saturday.
