LIVINGSTON, NJ — Area residents are invited to explore the West Essex YMCA at a Jan. 6 open house that includes swimming, yoga and Zumba demonstrations, sample enrichment classes, a bounce house, campfire singalong, and the chance to win a three-month membership.
The free event from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. will showcase the YMCA’s expansive offerings that promote healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
“The Y is a place where children and adults of all ages dare to break out of their routine, enjoy camaraderie, and have a ton of fun doing activities that improve body and mind,” said West Essex YMCA Executive Director Helen Flores “We’re opening our doors so the community can get a close-up look at the array of opportunities that await them.”
Beginning at 2 p.m., younger guests can enjoy the bounce house and arts & crafts. Guests are invited to eat healthy snacks, take part in a campfire singalong, and learn about summer camp opportunities at the West Essex YMCA and the Fairview Lake YMCA Camps. Wellness coaches will be on hand to discuss fitness goals.
At 3 p.m., swim instructors will assess kids’ ability levels, and the Y staff will lead a family yoga demonstration. A family Zumba demonstration follows at 4 p.m., while the Kid Zone will feature sample classes of Messy Artist, Mad Scientists and Sports Bug until 6 p.m. Families are invited to enjoy the pool from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Y is waiving the joiner fee for everyone who signs up by Jan. 15. To find out more about the open house and memberships, go to westessexymca.org, call 973-992-7500 or visit the facility at 321 South Livingston Ave.
