WASHINGTON, DC — Some 207 million eggs from a farm in Hyde County, N.C., have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. The eggs were sold to consumers in nine states, including New Jersey, and there have been 22 illnesses reported to date, according to the Food & Drug Administration.

Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Ind., is voluntarily recalling the eggs because they have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella braenderup, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others who have weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals who become infected can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In addition to New Jersey, the eggs were sold in Colorado, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
