SOUTH ORANGE/MAPLEWOOD, NJ — As 2020 ended, the COVID-19 caseloads climbed steadily.

As of Dec. 30, the last update from the Township's Department of Health, Maplewood was at 744. South Orange reported its caseload on Dec. 31 at 426. 

The Essex County total is 48,330 cases today, up 306 from yesterday. The State of New Jersey COVID-19 Data Dashboard is reporting 492,042 cases and 17,187 confirmed deaths as of today.

Essex County vaccination sites are open for Phase 1A. Those eligible are healthcare personnel — paid and unpaid — and long-term care residents. Criteria for eligibility can be seen on this page of covid19.nj.gov. Make an appointment through essexcovid.org. Phase 1B will include essential workers, including teachers, but an exact timeline with criteria has not been released yet.
