MAPLEWOOD, NJ - For more than 100 years, Maplewood has been celebrating July 4th with games, activities, and of course, fireworks. This year, the 4th of July Committee of the Maplewood Civic Association has once again planned a full day of events and contests, as well as a car show, circus, live music, and a food court.
Wristbands are required for entry to the festivities at Memorial Park (580 Valley Street) in Maplewood beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4. Wristbands can be purchased online here until July 3. Until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 30, there is the option to buy two tickets, and get one free.
On July 4th, wristbands will be full-price and can be purchased at five entrance gates located around the north and south fields of Memorial Park.
According to event organizers, "many activities are included with your wristband purchase, such as our car show, all-day concert stages, fireworks, face painting, competitive eating contests, karaoke, be-your-own-DJ, and much more. Other activities such as carnival games and amusements will be available for purchase on-site."
Highlights of the 4th of July celebrations include a 5K Run at 7:30 a.m. (separate registration required, details here), the Baking Contest, Kids' Relays, and a "Big Event Tent" which will feature an Ice Cream Eating Contest, Robotics Expo, Talent Show, Face Painting, Henna Tattooing, Caricaturist, Balloon Art, Pet Show, Acrobats, Costumed Characters, Amusements and Carnival Games. The 4th of July festivities conclude with a 9:25 p.m. Light Show Spectacular on both concert stages, followed by the fireworks display. Wristbands are required for all North and South field viewing areas.
