MILLBURN, NJ - The first thing you notice when you walk into Lightbridge Academy of Millburn is all the smiling faces -  not just from the kids, but from everyone who works with them, from the front office to the classroom.

The smiles all around are by design, said Lightbridge Academy's director, Elizabeth Freeman, adding that at the top of their job requirements when they hire staff is happy people. "We really look for people who will bring a positive attitude to working with children, and to everything we do here at Lightbridge Academy," explained Freeman.

Lightbridge Academy opened in Millburn this spring, and has ongoing enrollment all year. New students can start now and catch the end of the summer program, or join at the beginning of the school year, which starts in September.

Lightbridge has infant, toddler, and pre-k classrooms, all which are filled with interactive educational toys, and for the older students, technology desks which are part of the school's curriculum. Lightbridge also has a private, enclosed outdoor play area which is divided into two areas - one for infants and toddlers, and one for older kids - with all students having the opportunity to enjoy time outside.

There are two classrooms for each age group, and a growing staff of 11 teachers. These teachers have backgrounds in early childhood education, child psychology, or related fields, said the school's assistant director Alycia Delesky.

Lightbridge also offers back-up care programs as needed.for children up to age 10 during school holidays, breaks, and summer.

The curriculum at Lightbridge Academy is designed to “develop and nurture the whole child in different learning styles incorporating different learning theories, including Montessori, Howard Gardner, and Jean Piaget," said Freeman, who has has an educational background in early childhood education and psychology and has nearly 15 years of early childhood experience throughout New Jersey.

Katerina Kearney, founder and owner, explained the educational philosophy of Lightbridge. "Here at Lightbridge Academy of Millburn, we hope to inspire our children to be creative, independent thinkers who will develop passions for learning, all in a loving, safe environment that welcomes fun and imagination.”

The school day at Lightbridge runs from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and students can bring lunch and snacks from home, or purchase a hot lunch through the school that offers a rotating menu of child-friendly and nutritious selections.

Lightbridge also offers two snacks each day, and depending on the hours a child will be at Lighbridge, some families also opt to send in breakfast or dinner.

One great perk for working parents is that they can park all day in the Lightbridge Academy parking lot, and then walk to the Millburn train station. "We've heard it's about a 10 minute walk to the station," said Freeman, "and parents enjoy the convenience."
