CLARK, NJ — The Clark Fire and Police Departments discovered the body of a man in a Clark home Wednesday night while putting out a fire.

“A 58-year-old male resident was discovered with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” said Clark Police Chief Pedro Matos. “The investigation is still ongoing, but it does appear he attempted to set the house on fire.”

Firefighters and police were dispatched to the home on Terhune Road shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday evening after the daughter of a resident reported a burning smell and smoke in the home, according to Matos.
