MAPLEWOOD, NJ - First Night Maplewood South Orange, a community New Year's Eve celebration, will be back at Columbia High School (17 Parker Ave., Maplewood) for the second year in a row from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 31.

First Night Maplewood South Orange organizers hope this year's event will be "bigger than ever." Michael Goldberg, president of First Night Maplewood-South Orange, said, "We had over 1,000 people join us last year and we expect an even bigger crowd this year.”

Event organizers are grateful for the support of BCB Bank, which formally presented a check for $5,000 in support of the event on Dec. 17.

First Night, which requires a ticket for admission, will feature a variety of entertainment and activities for all ages. Returning performers include Lisa Lou Circus Acts, the Illestyle Hip Hop Dance Troupe, and Doc Swan’s magical comedy. New additions this year include Circtaquelar, a thrilling, mind-boggling display of artistry and athleticism, and a Laser Light show. Food from five local restaurants will be available in the Columbia High School cafeteria throughout the event. Participating restaurants are: Ariyoshi, Walia, Tito's Burritos, The Dancing Blender, and Mara's Cafe.

Goldberg confirmed that the evening will end with an outdoor fireworks display at 10:15 p.m.

Tickets to First Night South Orange Maplewood are $20 each, and can be purchased online and at the door the night of the event. For all ticket purchases, children 3 and under are admitted free.
