Girls on the Run to Celebrate their Limitless Potential at Florham Park PBA Turkey Trot on November 18

Nearly 600 girls who are participating in Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole programs this fall at schools and parks across Essex, Morris, and Union Counties will run in the Florham Park PBA Turkey Trot 5K on Saturday, November 18. The 5K run starts at 10 a.m. and will take place at the Holy Family Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park.

During the 10-week fall season, volunteer coaches have led the girls in 3rd-8th grade through the program’s youth development curriculum and have helped them to train to run a 5K. The curriculum uses physical activity to encourage girls to recognize their unique gifts, develop positive friendships, strengthen teamwork skills, manage their time, make healthy choices, and serve others.

Training for the 5K challenges the girls to set a goal and complete the hard work required to meet it, providing a framework for setting and achieving other life goals. This process empowers girls to dream and reach their limitless potential.

With more than 200,000 girls participating nationwide each year, Girls on the Run is highly effective at helping girls increase their physical activity while teaching critical life skills they can use at home, at school, and in their community. In fact, 97 percent of girls said that participating in Girls on the Run helped them learn to manage emotions, resolve conflicts, make intentional decisions, or help others. Girls on the Run of New Jersey East, our local council, is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 2,000 girls in Essex, Morris, Union, Burlington, and Mercer Counties each year. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident.
