EAST ORANGE, NJ - The fruition of East Orange Mayor Lester Taylor’s multi-year vision of making the East Orange Golf Course at Short Hills playable, popular, and profitable came into full view last Friday night with a grand opening celebration at the newly opened, Par 440 Restaurant & Lounge.

Taylor thanked Mario LaVecchia, who also owns Above Restaurant & Bar in South Orange, for all the extra care and investment he made in building such a terrific restaurant inside the clubhouse. The restaurant, which is managed by Robert LaVecchia, has a wide-ranging menu with a variety of options. The interior of the restaurant is newly decorated and welcoming, and there is an outdoor porch and patio overlooking the golf course and driving range. The restaurant is open daily at 11:30 a.m. for lunch, brunch, dinner, light bites, and beverages.

Taylor said, “after inheriting a facility that was running in the red, the investment in this asset is now generating alternative revenue for the City." Taylor acknowledged the support and efforts of East Orange Council members in rejuvenating the facility.

Located in the Township of Millburn, the golf course had been undergoing an extensive renovation by highly acclaimed golf course architect, Stephen Kay. Kay, who designed Blue Heron Pines, Harbor Pines, Scotland Run and The Architect’s Club. He was supported by an experienced team consisting of golf course superintendent Juan Casiano, Turco Golf Construction, Maser Engineering, and Marziani & Associates Architects.
