The Springfield Avenue Partnership and Maplewood Loves Wellness committee are pleased to announce the second annual Health & HarvestFest happening on Saturday, October 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hilton Library Branch area & Gazebo grounds, 1688 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ.

The Partnership and Maplewood Loves Wellness committee would like to thank our presenting sponsors: Natalie Farrell from Weichert Realtors and St. Barnabas Medical Center | RWJ Barnabas Health.

This family-friendly event will feature something for everyone including plenty of activities for the kids, music (DJ Jimmy B) and performances sponsored by the Park Wood Diner, a cooking demonstration, a healthy cooking contest and almost 40 vendors including retail, food and health & wellness businesses from Springfield Avenue, Maplewood and neighboring communities.

The Healthy Cooking Contest takes place at noon and includes free samples! This year’s entrants are Lickt Gelato, Cedar Ridge Café, Ameristar & Nargiz Deli, Tandoori Chef II and returning champ Winchester Gardens. This years judges are: Dana Simkins, owner of Family Style Nutrition, a nutrition counseling and education service for all ages based in South Orange, familystylenutrition.com; Cathy Roma, writer, photographer and recipe developer for the blog, whatshouldimakefor.com; and, Linda and Gordon Barnes and Joanne Beckerich all local Maplewood residents and this year’s recipients of the Maple Leaf Award. 

Activities for the kids can be enjoyed with the purchase of an $8 wristband (or 2 for $15) and include:

  • Pumpkin patch (1 pumpkin per child) and painting sponsored by Express Yourself Studios

  • Unlimited Bounce House sponsored by CKO Kickboxing of Maplewood

  • Unlimited Petting Zoo & Pony Rides sponsored by Vanessa Pollock of KWR Midtown Direct Realty, Tile Design Inspirations and Empire Medical

  • Wristbands are provided by Woolley Home Solutions

  • Old fashioned street games: hula hoops, jump ropes, bean bag toss, hopscotch and sidewalk chalk drawing provided by the Springfield Avenue Partnership

Attendees will also be able to pick up a complimentary copy of Tastes of Maplewood | Healthy Cooking Recipes from Local Eateries, while supplies last, and have a chance to win one of several prizes from Springfield Avenue businesses including gift certificates to the Park Wood Diner and Verjus Restaurant.
