MAPLEWOOD AND SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -  Here's everything you need to know for celebrating the July 4th holiday in SOMA.
Maplewood 4th of July celebrations take place in Memorial Park, with a full day of festivities that includes live music on two concert stages, a carnival midway, boardwalk games, two food courts, a classic car show and the Zerbini Family Circus. Wristbands are required for entry to events in Memorial Park, for more information visit
For the first time, there will be circus performances on July 3 at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m, in addition to the July 4 performances at 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 6 p.m. 

Maplewood police issued an advisory that Valley Street will be closed between Tuscan Road and Parker Avenue from 7 p.m. to the completion of the fireworks.

  • The Maplewood Pool is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The South Orange Pool is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Bowtie Cinemas in South Orange is showing Trolls at 10 a.m. as part of their free Summer Kids Series (also showing at 10 a.m. on July 3)
  • The South Orange Farmers Market will be held in the Sloan Street parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Alstede Farms a confirmed vendor, and more vendors possibly joining in the market as well.


As July 4th is a national holiday, South Orange and Maplewood municipal offices and the post office are closed, and there is no mail delivery. The South Orange and Maplewood libraries are both closed, and many stores and restaurants are closed in observance of the holiday.

There is no jitney service on July 4 in South Orange or Maplewood.
