Dear TAPinto SOMA Editor:
We are writing to express our enthusiastic support of Karen Hilton and her running mates Walter Clarke and Steve Schnall – South Orange 2017 – as they seek election to the South Orange Village Board of Trustees.
We have known Karen as a neighbor, friend and community leader and know she will make a fabulous addition to our Village Trustees. Karen has been a force for good as a leading volunteer in our public schools, and our Library for many years. Community engagement is what makes this town special, and she and her running mates are shining examples for all of us to follow. Since they began serving as trustees in 2013, Steve and Walter have been instrumental in containing Village costs and reducing debt. At the same time, they have helped improve safety and recreation and infrastructure, including roads and the water system.
Karen, is running for the first time but is hardly a stranger to Village workings. As president of the South Orange Public Library and founding President of the SOPL Foundation, she has guided the planning process — including preliminary design and feasibility studies — for a visionary overhaul of the existing library and the historic Connett building.
Working together, the South Orange 2017 team will provide steady leadership on important issues from fiscal such as identifying further opportunities for shared costs, transparency and quality of life.
Every vote counts in our local elections. We urge our fellow South Orange residents to vote on May 9th for Karen Hilton, Walter Clarke and Steve Schnall.
