On Sunday, November 4, Pastoralist Child Foundation is hosting the “Kenny Garrett Jazz Benefit Concert” at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in South Orange, New Jersey.
GRAMMY-Award winning composer and saxophonist, Kenny Garrett, has endured a stellar musical career for 4 decades since his first professional gig with the Duke Ellington Orchestra in 1978. Kenny has recorded 20 albums as a bandleader and can be heard on 300+ other albums. He is an alumnus of Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard Band, and most notably the Miles Davis Band. Kenny has circled the globe collaborating with Sting, Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Christian McBride, Herbie Hancock and countless others. Legendary musician, Carlos Santana, introduced Kenny as “one of the greatest living musicians” to a sold-out Madison Square Garden audience.
Kenny’s quintet features master musicians who work brilliantly as a unit - delivering pulsating lines and rhythms on piano, rock steady beats on drums and percussion, and unshakeable bass lines. Chances are you will tap your feet to the groove of “Wayne’s Thang,” clap and sing along to “Happy People” and dance to “Do Your Dance!”

Pastoralist Child Foundation (PCF) was founded in 2012 by New Jersey teacher, Sayydah Garrett and Samburu warrior Samuel Siriria Leadismo in Kenya, with the mission to eradicate female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced early marriages through mobilization and education. PCF provides reproductive health workshops, youth sports events, and promotes girls’ education through scholarships for girls attending full-time secondary boarding schools, eliminating heavy economic parental burdens. PCF is a Gold-level 501(c)3 charity on GuideStar, a UNICEF and The Girl Generation partner, and was featured on ABC TV and Voice of America.
Pastoralist Child Foundation’s work in Maasai Mara and Samburu, Kenya, is critical in the fight to prevent and ultimately end FGM by the year 2030. To date, 200 Million girls and women around the world have been subjected to FGM, a barbaric practice and human rights violation. Millions more girls are at risk, even in the United States. PCF stands firmly against it. Funds raised will help expand the successful anti-FGM curriculum throughout Maasai Mara and Samburu.
