WEST ORANGE, NJ — South Orange police arrested George Brown, 36, of Orange, on Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. after an officer on routine patrol observed the subject walking on Ward Pl. and determined that he fit the description of an actor that had been burglarizing vehicles in town, according to the South Orange Police Blotter.
The officer had previously viewed home surveillance video of a man entering a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Ridgewood Rd. residence on Oct. 8 at about 2:30 a.m. During the on-scene inquiry with Brown on Oct. 10, "a detective responded and through further investigative measures it was determined that the subject had in fact been the actor responsible for the entry and theft from the vehicle," reported South Orange police. During the following investigation, and after Brown was informed of his Miranda rights, he voluntarily confessed to several nighttime vehicle burglaries throughout South Orange .
In addition to the car burglaries in South Orange, Brown is also charged with 22 car break-ins in the Gregory section of West Orange, according to West Orange police.
West Orange police also reported that four men were charged after they were caught allegedly trying to use stolen credit cards, which were connected to some of the local car break-ins in West Orange. Police charged Marcus Odeyemi, 19, Anquan Holmes, 19, and a 17-year-old, all of Orange, with identity fraud. Marvin Jones, 20, of West Orange was also charged.
