MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Maplewood Community Music presents its annual winter concert, part of the Dickens Village festivities, on Sat., Dec. 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts (10 Durand Rd., Maplewood). The concert is free and open to all.
The performance begins with the Maplewood Community Band, under the direction of Steve Kimmons, playing a variety of music pieces that are reminiscent of the winter months, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Following an intermission, the Silvertones, an 8-piece flute ensemble, performs holiday-themed music from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Silvertones are a unique choir that includes piccolo and contrabass flute.
The concert ends with Swing Town, Maplewood's community 20-piece big band, under the direction of Ben Williams, performing holiday-themed songs from 4 p.m to 5 p.m.
Hot drinks and baked goods are available for purchase at the concert.
The concert will be a "Toys for Tots" collection event, and attendees are asked to consider bringing a new, unwrapped toy to donate. Toys will be delivered to less fortunate children throughout the area.
