MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Walsman's, a local Maplewood family, participated in The Fresh Air Fund’s Friendly Towns Program this summer, hosting 11-year-old Vasaune of Brooklyn for a week this past July.
The Walsman's were among the winners of The Fresh Air Fund's 2017 Photo Contest, which were selected from hundreds of photos submitted by volunteer host families along the East Coast and Southern Canada, according to a press release from The Fresh Air Fund. "The photos capture the memorable experiences our volunteer host families shared with Fresh Air children this past summer," stated the release.
The Walsman’s photo was selected as the winner in the “Summer Brother" and "New Experiences” categories, and features Fresh Air child, Vasaune, having a blast swimming and playing water sports in the lake with his host brothers Murphy, Riley and William in Northern New Jersey.
The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.
