MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Strong smoke prompted a call to the Maplewood Fire Department earlier today from Winchester Gardens.

“Thankfully, there was no actual fire at Winchester Gardens,” Deputy Chief Christopher Ariemma told TAPinto SOMA. Winchester Gardens is home to older adults in independent living, assisted living, and long-term care situations. “It ended up being unattended cooking with a heavy smoke condition.”

Irvington Fire Department responded as mutual aid on the report of a fire. “Luckily, they were not needed,” said Ariemma.
