UNION, NJ — A Maplewood man has died in a fiery accident after a tractor trailer and car collided on Route 78 East early Wednesday morning. New Jersey State Police confirmed that Kadeem R. Buckham, 29, died in the accident.
He was deceased by the time first responders arrived, said Union fire officials. His passenger, Tamu I. Waluie, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
At about 3:30 a.m., firefighters arrived at the scene and found a tractor trailer had collided with a single vehicle and the car had burst into flames. The truck driver was taken to University Hospital for precaution.
The truck cargo of Chinese food containers liquefied in the heat and hardened in the road. The fire was extinguished and the aftermath was dealt with by the New Jersey State Police. There were no injuries reported to Union firefighters or police officers.
