MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- The Township Committee adopted a $39.3 million budget for 2014, with a tax increase of $31.85 for a home assessed at the township average.
The budget approved at Tuesday's meeting represents a tax rate increase of 0.89 percent..
"We worked hard and brought in a budget that spent less this year than last year." Mayor Victor Deluca said.
The $39.3 million is about $280,000 lower than last year. Two amendments adopted were to hiring two new police officers by the end of the year and to increase the cultural affairs officer position from part time to full time.
