MAPLEWOOD AND SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Maplewood Police issued an advisory at about 12:45 p.m. that a Snow Emergency has been declared for Essex County, and at about 1:30 p.m. issued an advisory that a Snow Emergency had been declared for the Township of Maplewood.

No parking permission will be granted for the entire Township of Maplewood, according to the advisory. In addition, all vehicles parked on snow evacuation routes must be removed or be subjected to ticket and tow.

The advisory stated that no vehicles may be parked on the following Maplewood streets: Oakview Ave., Tuscan Rd., Elmwood Ave., Claremont Ave., Jefferson Ave., Collinwood Rd., and Parker Ave.

Maplewood police advise motorists to please remove vehicles from roadways and to refrain from driving unless necessary.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a severe weather alert for Maplewood and South Orange in effect until 9 p.m. on Saturday. Snow accumulations are predicted to be 2 to 4 inches.

At about 11 a.m. there was a single car accident when a car hit a utility pole on Wyoming Ave. in Maplewood.
