On August 29, at approximately 5 a.m., the Maplewood Police Department responded to a robbery in progress at 1521 Springfield Ave. A 66 year old male Maplewood resident reported as he withdrew money from an ATM machine, he was confronted by 3 male Juveniles. One Juvenile male attempted to grab the money that the victim withdrew from the ATM machine and a struggle ensued. The victim was able to fight off the males and run to safety while calling 911. A short time later, Maplewood Patrol Officers located and stopped a juvenile male matching the actor's description and was positively identified by the victim as being involved in the attempt to rob him. The 15 yr old Juvenile was transported to Headquarters and after investigation charged with Robbery 2C: 15-2 and Conspiracy 2C:5-2. This juvenile was transported to the Essex County Detention Center for Juveniles. After further investigation, Detectives identified the two other male juveniles ages 14 and 16 who were involved in the robbery. Arrests and charges are forthcoming. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
August 21 - Burglary; Sometime during the overnight hours entry was made to Seth Boyden School and several electronic devices were removed. As of this date suspects have been identified and charges have been drawn up accordingly.
August 22: Theft from Auto; Sometime between 4:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., a vehicle which was parked on Brown St. was entered. Personal paperwork, an ATM card and several keys were removed.
August 22 - Bicycle Theft; Sometime between 7:40 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. a bicycle was removed from a residence on Boyden Ave.
August 24 - Burglary; Sometime during the afternoon hours forced entry was made to several residences in the area of Franklin Ave. Suspect, Cornelius Hayes, 44 year old male from Irvington, NJ was apprehended and charged accordingly.
August 26 - Shoplifting; At approximately 3:24 p.m. suspect, Mark Mickens, 45 year old male from Newark, NJ was apprehended at the CVS on Valley St. after committing a shoplifting at the same location. Mickens was charged accordingly.
August 27- Theft from Auto; Sometime during the overnight hours an unsecured vehicle parked on Porter Rd. was entered and a case containing sunglasses was removed.
