MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The following is an announcement from Maplewood Police Department Chief Jim DuVaul concerning the attempted carjacking on Oakland Road:

The Maplewood Police Department is pleased to report an arrest has been made related to an Attempted Carjacking that occurred in our Township on Oakland Rd on April 15. Detectives quickly located video footage in the area which identified the vehicle that was used in connection to the incident. Detectives sent out a “bolo” (be on the lookout) out to all surrounding Police agencies including a photo of the suspect vehicle.

MPD Detectives working in collaboration with the Newark Police Department located the vehicle the next day. Detectives conducted surveillance of the vehicle, waited until back up arrived and conducted a stop on the vehicle without further incident. The vehicle involved was impounded and towed back to Maplewood Police Headquarters. Detectives, through the course of their investigation, were able to positively identify the actor involved in the incident. It should be noted that Detectives are attempting to locate and identify a third suspect that may have been involved in the incident.
