MAPLEWOOD, NJ  - Captain Dawn Williams of the Maplewood Police Department has released an updated statement via email regarding the incident yesterday involving a motorist and a pedestrian in the area of Prospect St. and Hilton Ave. in Maplewood.

Maplewood Police responded yesterday at approximately 1:21 p.m. to a report of an assault, and as a result of the investigation "it was determined the incident was a result of a dispute between a pedestrian and a motorist that escalated into an assault."

The release states that the two people involved in the incident are both women and residents of Maplewood, and that both "reported injuries that were non life threatening in nature."

The Maplewood Police have advised the individuals involved of complaint procedures in the event that they wish to pursue the matter.

Pedestrian safety has been a recent issue in Maplewood, and as a result of a car accident involving a boy walking to school, Maplewood Police have been conducting pedestrian crosswalk enforcement in and around Prospect St., Springfield Ave., Valley St., and surrounding streets.
