NEWARK, NJ - The Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force is continuing to investigate the death of Deborah Burton of Maplewood, who was fatally shot in Newark on March 13, stated Acting Essex County Prosecutor and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose on Wednesday, March 29.

Burton, age 62,  was shot in the area of 43 3rd Street in Newark  at about 1:45 p.m., and was pronounced dead at University Hospital a short time later, stated a media advisory from Thomas S. Fennelly, Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

There is no evidence at this time to indicate that the victim was carjacked, stated Fennelly, who added that the investigation is active and ongoing.
