MAPLEWOOD, NJ - With a pastor singing the national anthem on the steps of the Maplewood Municipal Building on Friday night, June 26, hundreds of men, women and children turned and fixed their eyes on a nearby flag pole. Rising over the crowd was an American flag and a rainbow flag, representing how the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled same-sex marriage is legal across the nation.

"Think about those words," Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca told the crowd after the pastor finished singing. "The land of the free, the land of the freedom to marry from coast to coast.”

“We have marriage equality today," DeLuca added. "It matters little what zip code you're in. It matters who you love, who you want to spend your life with."
