MONTCLAIR, NJ — A seven-year-old girl has been recognized by the Montclair Police Department after jumping into the pool and dragging her sister to safety.

Last week, Chief Conforti, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Hurlock and the men and women of his department, honored Ruby at her home.

Ruby realized her younger sister was in distress while swimming, and unable to get above water. She jumped to action without hesitation, bringing her sister’s head above water, then dragging her out of the pool and getting their father.

Montclair Police officials said that Ruby’s quick and decisive actions are heroic and brave for a person of any age, especially a seven-year-old.

"We salute our Shero Ruby," they wrote on their Facebook page.
