MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Maplewood Police Department is currently investigating a number of overnight burglaries that occurred near Maplewood Middle School, in the neighborhood known "Golf Island," according to a press release from Maplewood police.

According to a press release, during one of the burglaries on Maple Avenue, a homeowner confronted the suspect in his dining room at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Once the suspect was confronted, he fled the home south bound on Salter Place and then into a backyard toward Burnett Street, according to the press release.

Detectives located an image of a person of interest in the area which can be seen in the video here, and are canvassing the area and continuing the investigation, stated the press release.

Extra police presence is being provided to the area and residents are encouraged to contact the police if they see any suspicious persons or activity, stated the press release.
