SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD, NJ  - It's National Night Out in many communities and there will be celebrations in both South Orange and Maplewood on Tues., Aug. 2.

National Night Out promotes police-community partnerships, and provides public safety tips and information.

South Orange will hold its Seventh Annual National Night Out, hosted by South Orange Village, the South Orange Police Department, the South Orange Rescue Squad, the South Orange Fire Department, and the South Orange CERT Team.

South Orange National Night Out will take place on Floods Hill beginning at 6:30 p.m. with live music from "Aisle Five." The event will also feature a  Kids Zone with bounce houses, water slides, activities, and giveaways, including tshirts, Frisbees and glow sticks. For the second year, the NorthSTAR Air Medical Helicopter will make a landing. There will also be food truck vendors throughout the evening. The event ends with a showing of the movie Zootopia at 8:30 p.m.


The Maplewood Police Department is hosting National Night Out in Dehart Park (120 Burnett Ave.) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will feature music, food, bounce houses, superheroes,and much more.
