SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD, NJ - It's National Night Out in many communities and there will be events in both South Orange and Maplewood on Tuesday, August 1.
National Night Out promotes police-community partnerships, and provides public safety tips and information.
South Orange will hold its Eighth Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1, hosted by South Orange Village, the South Orange Police Department, the South Orange Rescue Squad, the South Orange Fire Department, and the South Orange CERT Team.
South Orange National Night Out will take place on Floods Hill beginning at 6:30 p.m. with live music from "Aisle Five." The event will also feature a Kids Zone with bounce houses, water slides, activities, and giveaways, including t-shirts, Frisbees, and glow sticks. There will also be food truck vendors throughout the evening. The event ends with a showing of the movie Moana at 8:30 p.m.
"This is the 8th year we’re hosting National Night Out in South Orange which is one of the largest events of the year. Unlike other communities who focus solely on their police department, we saw this as an opportunity to celebrate the work of all our public safety departments including police and fire along with the many organizations and volunteers who serve South Orange such as our Rescue Squad, Community Emergency Response Team, Neighborhood Watch Organization, Moms Demand Action, and more. We have a great lineup and we welcome all to join us," shared South Orange Village President Sheena Collum.
The Maplewood Police Department is hosting National Night Out in Dehart Park (120 Burnett Ave.) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1. The event will feature music, food, bounce houses, and more. For more information, or to make a contribution, contact Detective Sergeant Christopher Black of the Maplewood Police Department YAB at
