MAPLEWOOD, NJ - After the Maplewood Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 1, when the committee voted unanimously to ask for the resignation of Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino, and to have Cimino and Capt. Joshua J. Cummis placed on administrative leave effective immediately, there is a new acting chief and acting captain of the Maplewood Police Department.

Acting Capt. Jimmy DeVaul is the new Acting Chief of Police, and Lieutenant Albert Sally is the new Acting Captain, according to Maplewood Mayor Vic De Luca.

DeVaul currently heads the Detective Bureau, according to the Maplewood Police Department website.

Sally, who has been a police officer for over 15 years, was appointed Sergeant in 2012, and Lieutenant in March, 2015.

Cimino is on administrative leave with pay for 60 days, and Cummis is on administrative leave with pay until August 31.
