MAPLEWOOD, NJ - There is a new store on Springfield Avenue: Finlay + Gage, which sells, rents, and repairs string instruments, from banjos to cellos.
Finlay + Gage held their grand opening on September 16, with an official ribbon cutting with Maplewood Township Committee members and Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca.
Prior to opening Finlay + Gage, co-owner David Gage had a musical instrument shop in New York City. Gage joined with Sam Finlay to open Finlay + Gage. In addition to providing rental instruments for students, selling instruments, and repairing and restoring a full-range of string instruments, the store also stocks an assortment of accessories. The owners also said they plan to support local events and provide rehearsal and recital spaces in their studio.
“I’m happy to connect with the community – the idea of bringing music and instruments here makes us feel great. Music holds the community together. We specialize in strings…bowed and threaded," said Finlay.
"You know they are really committed to the community," said DeLuca. "Sam [Finlay] has not just opened a business here, but this building is a condominium and they have purchased the location …. He’s put his money where his mouth is."
"This is a perfect match for our community, which has a high regard for art and culture and music, and I think they’ll do very well here. Just have to make sure all know they are here," added DeLuca.
The opening also included a violin performance, fitting for this new store which is sure to continue to be filled with music.
