Dear Columbia High School Family,

My name is Dr. Kalisha Morgan and I am excited to be named the interim principal of Columbia High School for the 2018-2019 school year. As many of you know, I have been serving as the Director of Planning and Assessment for the South Orange Maplewood School District for the past 18 months. In this role, I had the opportunity to witness all of the great things occurring across all of our district schools. I am excited to come to Columbia High School, which is known for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly for its dedication to children.

I have worked as a teacher, school administrator, and college professor for the past 23 years, however I consider being a child advocate my most important job. As interim principal. I will spend a lot of time with your children. I will listen to them. I will get to know their learning styles and their interests. I will encourage them daily and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school community. My main priority is to ensure that all children are healthy, happy, and safe as well as challenged and stimulated intellectually, so that they may develop to their full potential.

My philosophy is simple. I believe that all children can learn if motivated and taught. This has been my philosophy since I began my teaching career. Please know that I will work tirelessly to ensure that all children have the best experiences possible while at Columbia High School.

Most of my summer will be spent ensuring that there is a smooth transition and opening in September. I have scheduled two Meet and Greet sessions in the CHS Cafeteria (enter from staff parking lot) so that you can get to know me and I can get to know you:

  • Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 10am to 12pm
  • Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm (moved to the District Meeting Room)

If you do not have an opportunity to attend either of the meet and greet sessions another one will be scheduled in September.

New student orientation is also scheduled for Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 9am to 11am. More information regarding new student orientation will be sent in August.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Regards,

Kalisha Morgan
