SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The public garage at 3rd and Valley opened on Friday, June 17, offering a new parking option in South Orange Village, according to an update on the South Orange Parking Authority (SOPA) website.
Parking rules at the garage are as follows:
- Parking is free after 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and all day on Sunday.
- Public parking at all other times is $1.00 per hour, which is Monday through Saturday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The maximum fee for daily parking is $7.00.
- There is no parking in the garage from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Garage payment can be made using the pay stations at the 3rd Street exit.
Resident Commuter Garage Permits are also available, and provide reserved parking Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Permits are also valid on Saturdays, with no additional payment required.
Scooter parking permits are available by contacting Neva Rodriguez at the SOPA office at 973-378-7715 ext. 2037 or by email at email@example.com.
The SOPA website also noted that Resident Commuter Garage Permit holders who have been parking in the Firehouse Lot 3, Village Hall Lot 4, Church Street Gravel Lot, or Waterlands Lot, must transition to parking in the garage. All of these locations will revert back to their original use, except for the Church Street Gravel Lot which will become public parking for shoppers and diners.
"These new parking spots should certainly help ease the parking crunch at the Sloan Street parking lot as well as the lot by the firehouse," stated Bob Zuckerman, Executive Director of the South Orange Village Center Alliance in the most recent "Village Vibe" newsletter.
