MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Parents of students at Seth Boyden Elementary School started a petition on Sunday, "KEEP Damion Frye on as the Principal at Seth Boyden Elementary School," and as of Monday at 11 a.m. it had more than 170 signatures.

The petition writes "in two short years, Mr. Frye has made tremendous improvements to the school," and outlines specific programs he implemented, including adding a morning meeting for all grade 1-5 students, and "brand[ing] Seth Boyden with not only a new logo but a new direction."

The petition is in response, according to a Seth Boyden parent, to a letter Seth Boyden students received last week from Frye saying good-bye and that he would not be continuing in his position for the 2018-2019 school year.

While a school district spokesperson said she could not comment on personnel matters, the list of non-tenured staff being re-appointed for the 2018-2019 school year does not include Frye.

John Benjamin Davidman, who began the petition, wrote in an update to the petition on that it will be delivered to members of the South Orange Maplewood School Board at the special session of the board at 7 p.m. on Monday.

"Let's flood them with our presence so that we cannot be ignored. We hope to read the petition to the board and to share some of the many stories people have shared on the petition and on Facebook," according to Davidman's update.

Frye began as the principal at Seth Boyden at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.
