PATERSON, NJ - Abelardo C. Romero, a Montclair resident, has had his teaching license revoked after a Department of Education State Board of Examiners decision reached last month.
Romero was a teacher at the School of Information Technology at Eastside High School in Paterson before he pleaded guilty to child abuse charges in 2015. He was accused of having sexual relations with a student, and was charged with nine counts of sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related charges in September 2014 by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The delay in decision was due to a period given to Romero to file an order stating why his license should not be revoked. After notices were sent out, and returned unclaimed, another attempt was made to send the orders out to the correct address. Those orders were not responded to by Romero.
The Department of Education State Board of Examiners issued a written decision on Jan. 19, 2017, revoking Romero's teaching certificate.
