UNION, NJ – Union police apprehended two suspects Tuesday afternoon after an armed robbery on Route 22.

According to Union police, two suspects robbed at gunpoint the Exxon gas station at 1601 Route 22 West in Union Tuesday at about 2 p.m.  A description of the suspects and vehicle were provided to police, who saw the red Range Rover driving on Route 22 East.

The Range Rover matched a car-jacked vehicle taken out of Newark on Monday.  When police activated their vehicle lights and siren, the suspects initiated a pursuit, which ended when the driver lost control and crashed on Osborne Terrace in Newark. The suspects were able to get out of the vehicle but were quickly apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The Range Rover was confirmed as the vehicle taken at gun point in Newark on July 3.  Recovered in the vehicle was a loaded 9mm handgun and an imitation automatic rifle (AK-47), police said.  Arrested at the scene were Newark residents Maurice Ellis and Anthony Reddick.  Both men were charged with robbery and various weapons charges.  The investigation is ongoing.
