FRANKLIN, NJ – Burglars broke into the Franklin Mineral Museum early Monday, June 19, around 4:40 a.m. stealing approximately $30,000 in precious stones, gems and minerals. They broke in through a second story window and caused significant damage to the shelves and the museum’s display cabinets, according to Franklin Borough police.
In addition to the monetary loss, the merchandise is a unique part of the mineral history within Sussex County, police noted.
Police report at least one of the burglars was seriously injured in the break-in, likely a severe laceration, leaving blood throughout the museum.
