MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Maplewood police are currently investigating a report that a 23-year-old Newark man was the victim of a knife attack in Maplewood on Wednesday, Jan. 25, according to a statement from Maplewood police.
Maplewood police received the report of aggravated assault with a knife at about 10 p.m., but according to police, "the incident took place in the area of Coolidge Rd. and Irvington Ave. at approximately 7:45 p.m." The incident was initially reported to the Newark Police Department, which determined that the altercation had taken place in Maplewood.
Coolidge Rd. between Irvington Ave. and Garfield Pl. was temporarily closed from about 10:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday night for the police investigation into the incident.
According to Maplewood police, the man "was involved in what appears to be a mutual fight with another male he knows and had a previous dispute with. During the course of this altercation, the actor took a knife out of his pocket and slashed at the victim."
The victim had minor injuries and received medical attention from the Newark police, and was not hospitalized, according to the statement from Maplewood police.
The incident is under investigation and anyone with information is requested to contact the Maplewood Police Department Youth Aid Bureau.
