SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - Curb and sidewalk work is planned to begin the week of May 15 on Lenox Avenue from South Wyoming Avenue to South Ridgewood Road), including Lenox Place and Lenox Terrace.
The work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks, weather permitting, according to an update on the SouthOrange.org website from Ed Gulyas, Deputy Department Head of Engineering.
The planned work includes drainage improvements, replacing of the curbing with granite block curbing, and a new asphalt driving surface. During this time, there will be yellow, blue, green and/or red spray paint markings in the road and sidewalk area, which the website updates states are used "to help locate the respective underground utilities in the area."
During the road work, driveway access in the construction area will be limited. The update states that "although this can be an inconvenience, we will try to minimize this disruption. During construction, cars will not be allowed to be parked on the road."
The contractor will inform residents in the affected area a day prior to the driveway access being limited. If a resident needs to park overnight on the roadway, they are asked to contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 and inform them that there is roadwork on their street. It usually takes 1 to 2 days to get driveway access back once the material cures, stated the website update.
Residents who have a sprinkler system near the curb and sidewalk area, are asked to please locate them for the contractor. South Orange Village and the contractor will not be responsible for damages. If damages do occur, please notify Ed Gulyas, Deputy Department Head of Engineering at 973-378-7715 x2266 prior to having them repaired.
Gulyas also asks residents not to approach or attempt to discuss the project with individual workers as "they do not have the authority to make changes to the project scope or perform additional work."
Any disturbed areas as a result of the work being performed will be top soiled and seeded. Once the curbing is completed, there will be a schedule for paving, which should take 2 days.
If you have questions regarding road closures or specific construction issues, please contact Gulyas at 973-378-7715 x2266.
