MAPLEWOOD, NJ - SOMA Action will be protesting tomorrow evening at the Maplewood Train Station in support of abortion rights.

The rally called #StopTheBans is part of a larger, nationalwide movement to speak out against abortion opponents that are considering whether to overturn Roe V. Wade.

"Across the country, we are seeing a new wave of extreme bans on abortion, stripping away reproductive freedom and representing an all-out assault on abortion access," read a staement on the website, "It's terrifying, particularly for women of color and low-income women who are most affected by these bans."

The Roe V. Wade case ruled in 1973 that state regulation of abortion is unconstitutional. Over the past year, some lawmakers have been pushing for stricter legislation on abortion. Last week, PBS reported that Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed a restrictive abortion law that could eliminate the termination of pregnancy across the state.

Under the bill, PBS reported that doctors could receive up to a 99-year prison sentence for performing the procedure but that there would be limited health exceptions.
