MAPLEWOOD/MILLBURN, NJ - The construction of an open-air pavilion in Essex County South Mountain Reservation was completed on Thursday, December 21, announced Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr.
Joining DiVincenzo in cutting the ceremonial ribbon were Essex County Assistant Engineer Melinda Cortez, South Mountain Conservancy members William Weisz and Dennis Percher, Essex County Sheriff Deputy Chief Fitzgerald Figliuolo, and Essex County Parks Director Dan Salvante.
The steel and wooden structure is located along Crest Drive by the Washington Rock look out area. The pavilion is developed on the site of a former parking area and "provides hikers and other park visitors with a place to rest, get out of the rain or find shade on a sunny day," according to a press release from DiVincenzo.
The pavilion was funded with a grant from the NJ Green Acres program, stated the release.
