SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - South Mountain School (SMS) observed the National Walk Out on Wednesday not by walking out, but instead, with an indoor line up at the beginning of the day, according to an update to the South Mountain Superstars Facebook page.

SMS students in second thru fifth grade had a morning meeting together and participated in a school wide handshake as a sign of togetherness and belonginess, stated the Facebook page update. The activities were an extension of the Week of Hello the school participated in previously, stated an email from SMS principal Alyna Jacobs.

The principal's email also noted that during the meeting on Wednesday there was no discussion of gun violence or school shootings.
