ESSEX COUNTY, NJ - The Junior Leagues in New Jersey's State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC), met with area legislators to discuss legislation related to bettering the lives of women and children in New Jersey.
SPAC is the advocacy arm of the Junior Leagues in New Jersey. According to a press release from the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills, volunteers have worked for over 40 years to advocate on behalf of the most voiceless in New Jersey. Successes include legislation relating to childhood obesity; human trafficking; violence against women; child safety (bike helmets, booster seats, childproof handguns); foster care; juvenile justice; smoke free air; anti-stalking; breast feeding and maternity stay initiatives.
Two of the Junior League volunteers who met with Mila Jasey and other legislators were Karen Hartshorn Hilton of South Orange and Sara Thom of Maplewood.
