SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Maplewood-South Orange Softball and South Orange-Maplewood Baseball leagues held their opening day parade and ceremony on Saturday, April 30.

Players, coaches, and parents all came out to enjoy this annual SOMA tradition, with the parade beginning at 9 a.m. from New Waterlands Fields off of Third Street in South Orange. The parade continued from 3rd Street to Sloan Street, turning left on South Orange Avenue, and then right after the Village Service Station, continuing along the river. The parade ended at Cameron Field, where the Opening Day Ceremony then took place. 

The parade of softball, baseball and T-ball teams, many holding signs, was led by the Columbia High School Marching Band, and ended with the South Orange Rescue Squad trucks.

South Orange and Maplewood officials came out to join the parade and festivities, with South Orange Village President Sheena Collum and Maplewood Mayor Victor DeLuca both throwing out the first pitches of the season.
