SOUTH ORANGE AND MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Public schools "plan to be open" in South Orange and Maplewood at their regularly scheduled times on Tues., Jan. 26, according to an email from Suzanne Turner, Director of Strategic Communications for the South Orange Maplewood School District (SOMSD).

An email was sent to families from the SOMSD at approx. 11 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 26, that confirmed schools "are scheduled to open at normal start times tomorrow."

The email also advised caution when traveling to and from school, stating that "the Maplewood and South Orange Departments of Public Works, our school district maintenance staff, and our custodial teams have worked all weekend and today [Monday] to make our schools ready for opening tomorrow. Despite best efforts, some pathways are not fully cleared."

The email continued, "we ask families to please allow for extra time in transporting children to and from school, and to walk or drive carefully. If walking, please try to use paths with crossing guards in order to ensure safe transit, whenever possible."

Public schools were closed in South Orange and Maplewood on Mon., Jan. 25, due to snow removal issues from the blizzard that left approx. two feet of snow in the area.
