MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The South Orange Maplewood School District (SOMSD) sent an email to families at about 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, advising that West Parker will be partially closed when schools are dismissed today, and explaining that normal paths to school may be blocked.

The street closure is so that PSE&G can string new power cables, and according to the email from the SOMSD, is "considered an emergency."

Dear SOMSD Families,

PSE&G has advised us that there will be a partial closing of West Parker from Valley Street (east end) to Maplewood Ave (west end) beginning at 3:00 PM today. The street will be closed while PSE&G strings new power cables. The line that is being replaced will run along West Parker. This event was not forecast and is considered an emergency.

Limited traffic will be allowed including departure from our parking lots.

You may wish to think of alternate routes in advance, in case your normal path to or from school is blocked. The Maplewood police will be assisting with redirecting traffic, including pedestrian traffic, as necessary.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, both on and off campus.
